Haven't tried a custom ROM but I have the aussie version and just tried to flash a Hong Kong firmware form Sammobile and soft bricked. Doing some research I thought I saw somewhere that you cannot flash a firmware other than your own country anymore because of Samsung Knox? Now just have to wait for my Note 3 to arrive to flash it. But the features and mods I will gain will more than out way that.I have already cooked a rom for myself with MI7 firmware. After cooking and flashing my own custom roms for Note 1 & Note 2 an I am more than aware of the risks.

Rooting would be so handy with able to have all apps multi window and all apps for the new pen window. However, these are different concepts: Jailbreaking is the bypass of several types of Apple prohibitions for the end user, including modifying the operating system (enforced by a "locked bootloader"), installing non-officially approved applications via sideloading, and granting the user elevated administration-level privileges (rooting).
